Syd Barrett January 6 1946 - 7 July 2006

Born (Roger Keith barrett) on January 6th, 1946. In 1965, Roger Waters brought Syd to play with a band (then called the tea set). After several name changes they became Pink Floyd. He is still regarded as one of the founding members. Unfortunately, in 1968, too many drugs (LSD) had affected his playing, and mental illness plagued him. Syd was replaced by David Gilmour.

Syd also had a very short solo career, and two albums were released: The madcap laughs and Barrett.

Its surprising just how many Pink Floyd fans from "Wish you were here /Dark side" period have never even heard of him! I would argue that the sound of the classic albums from the Wish you were here period onwards, would never have happened without his great talent and early experimentation on albums such as saucerfull of secrets.
